Bentonville police announced Monday evening that they have made an arrest in the slaying of a 6-year-old girl whose body was found two days before Thanksgiving. Jersey Bridgeman was reported missing the morning of Nov. 20, and her body was found a short time later in an abandoned house two doors from her home. Jersey previously had been at the center of a case that saw her father and stepmother sentenced to prison for abuse that included chaining the girl to a dresser. Authorities have not said how Jersey was killed. Police said they will name the suspect at a news conference Monday night in Bentonville. A search of her neighborhood near downtown turned up the girl's body within minutes. Jersey's death came about a year after abuse allegations were leveled against her father and stepmother in nearby Rogers.

Smith didn’t show up to practice Tuesday, and Wednesday indicated to the UCLA coaches he intended to leave the program. The coaching staff then tried to convince him to stay, but many sources are telling us Smith has decided to leave, and has informed UCLA Athletic Director Dan Guerrero of his decision. “Joshua is a fine young man who has meant a lot to this program,” said UCLA head coach Ben Howland said in a statement. “I know I speak for myself and my staff when I thank him for his time in Westwood and wish him well in his future endeavors. ” Smith was a disappointment throughout his career in Westwood. He’s got the talent to be an all-american and a top ten pick in the NBA Draft, but he simply was never able to get himself in good enough shape to do so.
